We encourage applications to study with us on one of our research higher degree (RHD) programs.

We offer the following programs:

In-depth study

A research higher degree involves in-depth study and a commitment to understand existing information or to develop new data or ideas.

Our Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy programs require you to think about and investigate your chosen area in great depth. The processes and research you conduct will result in new knowledge that you can contribute to this field of thought.

Our research activities cover a broad range of fields, including:

  • geochronology
  • isotope geology
  • environmental geochemistry
  • marine geology
  • coal geology
  • structural geology
  • tectonics
  • geodynamics
  • geomicrobiology
  • computational geoscience.

Cross-disciplinary environment

Our internationally recognised researchers and strong industry links will help you develop both pure and applied projects.

Our close-knit, collegial environment provides a broad cross-disciplinary research experience, and you will have frequent opportunities for fieldwork both locally and abroad.

How to apply

For information on how to apply, visit the UQ Graduate School's apply now page.

Applications can take between 6 and 12 weeks to process, depending on individual circumstances. Once you have secured a supervisor, you will need to submit an application along with a completed project form.
