Urban studies

Urban studies focuses on understanding the development of cities and city life.

Interdisciplinary in nature, urban studies extends across the social, economic, planning and political dimensions that combine to explain the complexity of urban systems.

Our research in this space includes (but is not limited to) urban modelling, transportation, urban and regional planning, community development, housing, population ageing, human mobility, and urban regeneration and revitalisation, as well as urban policies and management.

We place a particular emphasis on understanding the geographical and social dimensions to unveil the drivers and inhibitors of sustainable urban development in the era of climate change, rapid population growth and diminishing natural resources, and technological advancement.

Collectively, our projects generate knowledge and develop tools to contribute to policy making, and help to inform the general public about the complex challenges associated with sustainable urban development.
