We have a strong group of paleoecologists and associated researchers. We range from deep time to the Quaternary, with our strongest focus in the latter area.

We focus on reconstructing paleoecological, climate and sea-level records from lakes, estuaries and bogs.

There is a special emphasis on the sand islands of SE Queensland but there is research in many parts of the world including the rest of Australia, New Zealand, SE Asia, China and North America.

We have developed novel techniques for reconstructing past climates and environments using transfer functions and integrating geochemical with ecological data.

We have strength in many taxonomic groups including but not limited to pollen, chironomids, charcoal and phyoliths.
