We have a strong group of paleoecologists and associated researchers. Our specialisms range from deep time to the Quaternary, with our strongest focus in the latter area.

We focus on reconstructing paleoecological, climate and sea-level records from lakes, estuaries and bogs.

The sand islands of South East Queensland are of particular interest, but we undertake research in many other parts of the world, including the rest of Australia, and New Zealand, Southeast Asia, China and North America.

We have developed novel techniques for reconstructing past climates and environments using transfer functions and integrating geochemical with ecological data.

Our strength in many taxonomic groups includes, but isn't limited to, pollen, chironomids, charcoal and phyoliths.
