Geospatial science

Geospatial sciences covers the technical disciplines used to collect and analyse information tied to a location and time – in essence this is all forms of data across many discipline areas.

At the heart of this discipline is geographic data collection across biophysical, human, social and economic dimensions.

We teach fundamentals of geodesy and cartography, but our research focus areas are analyses and modelling of patterns in all forms of data, in space and time.

Measurement and modelling of patterns in social and economic data, for business and government location planning, are one focus.

Another is the use of remotely-sensed earth observation data for monitoring and managing environments from your back garden, to Australia and the whole planet.

Our work in these areas is fundamental for all levels of government in Australia, and private industry that relies on location-based services.
