The school has strength in process geomorphology with a particular focus on coastal systems in SE Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef.

Research areas include long term coastal evolution, numerical modelling of coastal systems and paleo-tempestology.

There is ongoing investigation of aeolian systems including long distance dust transport and coastal dunes.

Further there are research programs in glacial geomorphology in New Zealand and Tasmania and fluvial geomorphology in eastern Australia, while fundamental processes of erosion are also examined through cosmogenic radionucleids.
