Geographical information science

Geographical Information Science is concerned with the collection, manipulation, analysis and modelling of geographical information to understand the complex dynamics of human, environmental and physical systems in space and over time.

Our research in GIS includes but not limited to spatial data mining, spatial (and ‘big’) data analytics, modelling and geo-simulation, 3D visualisation, public participatory and web-based GIS.

We adopt an interdisciplinary approach, spanning the human-environmental interface and are centred on the big issues facing contemporary society, including population growth, land management, urban planning, transportation and health.

Our research has important implications for policy making in its capacity to offer new empirical evidence bases.
