This project will address three critical components of the Australian food production system. First, it will attempt to precisely evaluate and quantify the economic and social importance, environmental burdens and hidden costs of the Australian food industry using input-output oriented approaches. Second, it will perform a quantitative and economic analysis of resource efficiency, and actual consumption and production patterns of the Australian food supply chain using life cycle analysis approaches. Lastly, it will assess and demonstrate the environmental and economic benefits of implementing sustainable production and consumption processes, primarily based on circular economy principles, in the food production system.
