New interest in the coal deposits of the Galilee Basin has prompted further research into the depositional patterns and complex stratigraphy of the basin. The aim of this project is to look at the biostratigraphy of the basin in greater detail for correlation with other eastern Australian basins as well as with other coeval Gondwanan basins in Africa and South America. Application of palynofacies analysis in conjunction with sedimentology, isotope geochemistry and trace element analysis will allow for more detailed studies of the palaeoenvironment and palaeoclimate.
