Geochronological and geochemical constraints on convergent models of Gondwana margins: Variscan, Delamerian and Mossman orogens
Duration:
October 2018–January 2022
The ‘life-cycle’ of a supercontinent commonly records profound changes in climate, life and sedimentary systems. This project aims to utilise rock records to test tectonic models for critical events on convergent plate margins. The study will focus on establishing age constraints and studying the geological evolution of the Variscan, Delamerian and Mossman orogens by undertaking detailed geo-(thermal)chronology and geochemical analysis. Project results will also provide new insight into the post-orogenic evolution of adjacent basins and help to develop a better understanding of the tectonic evolution of eastern and western Gondwana.
