An extended Palaeoecology study of late Quaternary sub alpine sites in Tasmania
Duration:
January 2020–April 2023
This project will investigate late Quaternary environmental change for sub alpine (600 to 800 metres in elevation) landscapes across Tasmania. This study will provide important new information for a relatively poorly studied region, particularly on how it responds to changes in climate (i.e. transition from cold conditions of the Last Glacial Maximum (~20,000 years ago) to the warmer environments of the Holocene (last 12,000 years)), as well as human impacts (i.e. anthropogenic fire regimes and European settlement). This is crucial information for the conservation and sustainable management of sub alpine landscapes.
