It is known that sedentary behaviour is associated with several diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and musculoskeletal disorders. One known at-risk group is office workers. To reduce the sitting time in a workplace, several simple interventions at the organisational and individual levels could be used. One intervention is use of a break timer application, which is a program that locks the screen, keyboard, and mouse of a computer at desirable intervals to remind workers to take a break from sitting at a desk too long. This project aims to investigate if the use of a break timer application could reduce sedentary behaviour in office workers and if the use of a break timer application has a positive impact on productivity, absenteeism, and presenteeism.
