Dr. Nikole Arrieta is a Postdoctoral Researcher from The Department of Analytical Chemistry of The University of The Basque Country (UPV-EHU, Basque Country, Spain). Her Research Fellowship is funded by the Department of Education of the Basque Government. She is an Environmental Scientist who research biogeochemical processes. Her research is focused on the study of beachrocks and other carbonaceous cemented deposits. She will be working and collaborating with Professors Gregory E. Webb and Gordon Southam at The University of Queensland till 2019.The investigations would be focused on the definition of the influence of microorganisms and organomineralization processes on the unusual temperate latitude carbonate diagenesis or beachrock formations that she studies by the detection of organic templates trapped within the carbonates. Different geomicrobiological experiments on microbialites, or trace metal analyses, will be also developed. In addition, she will be collaborating in the study of other beachrock samples from inshore & offshore cays in the Great Barrier Reef and on studies of diagenesis during formation of reef framework through ongoing projects with Dr. Luke Nothdurft at the Queensland University of Technology and Dr. Siobhan Wilson at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.
