Murray has practiced Life Cycle Assessment for almost 20 years. This includes pioneering work on the building materials and the Australian energy supply system and high profile projects such as the LCA of the Sydney Olympics. The LCA expertise has focussed upon building and infrastructure and led to the development of software to automate the LCA of a building based upon drawings (LCAid and LCADesign). He also represented Standards Australia and participated in the drafting of International Standards for Environmental Product Declarations and advised the Australian Green Building Council as part of its expert panel for materials.

Over the past 8 years he has worked with CSIRO and further developed his LCA expertise into water systems and integration with economic assessment.
