Research interests: Small island developing states (SIDSs), waste management in SIDSs, community development, water management in SIDSs, and natural resource use by the tourism industry in SIDSs.

Personal interests: Argentinean tango, salsa, mentoring, travelling, personal development opportunities, whole foods, being in the great outdoors – especially near the sea, and watching the sun set over the ocean.


Nicole has nearly a decade of experience working in environmental education in the Caribbean. During this period, Nicole held the directorship of a non-governmental organisation and was directly involved in the development and implementation of several successful and long running initiatives including: Clean Up Barbados, Green Business Barbados, and the CoRe NETWORK community recycling initiative. Before commencing her PhD, Nicole completed her Master of Development Practice (Advanced) and designed a research project centred on the motivations and enablers of recycling in SIDSs, focused on Barbados. Prior to her work in the Caribbean, Nicole spent more than a decade in various roles in the retail travel and training sectors.
