Researcher biography

Dr Aude Bernard is a demographer with an interest in human mobility and migration. Her research focuses on large-scale comparative studies and methods of analysis. Dr Bernard was recently awarded an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) to examine the long-term decline of internal migration rates in advanced economies. This project aims to establish the onset and pace of the migration decline for a global sample of countries and identify the socio-economic causes of this profound shift in human mobility. Central to this work is the development of innovative cohort measures of migration.

Dr Bernard is currently undertaking work for the UNESCO to establish the association between internal migration and education attainment in countries at various stages of development around the world. She is also collaborating with the Asian Demographic Research Institute (ADRI) to advance understanding of internal migration behaviour in Asian countries.
