Social mentoring: Postgrad Assist

All of our new postgraduate coursework (PGCW) students are invited to join Postgrad Assist, our peer mentoring program.

Linking new students to second- and third-semester postgraduates at the start of each semester during Orientation, the program offers support during your transition to life at UQ.

Whether you're returning to study after a break, juggling family or work commitments, or getting used to living in a new country, our mentors will support you during this period of adjustment.

Program aims

Postgrad Assist runs for a full semester, and aims to:

  • help new PGCW students settle in at our School, and at UQ
  • provide social and professional networking opportunities
  • develop an adjusted and engaged student community within our School.

Program details

Our mentors won't provide individual academic advice, but they will help you to increase your academic and social confidence.

Informal social activities include:

  • campus tour
  • get-to-know-you session for mentees and mentors
  • fortnightly small-group meetings
  • end-of-semester event.

Once you have completed the program, you can apply to be a mentor.

If you sign up as mentee or mentor, we'll expect you to commit to the program for the whole semester.
