UQ Commendation for Field Geology Program

3 Nov 2015
Reading and interpreting the rock record is integral to the UQ Field Geology program.

Congratulations to our staff on the UQ Field Geology Program team. The program has been recognised with a 2015 UQ Commendation for Programs that Enhance Learning.

The commendation is part of the wider UQ Excellence in Teaching and Learning Awards, which annually recognise and reward academic and general staff.

Integrated courses

The UQ Field Geology Program is an integrated set of courses designed to train undergraduate students in reading and interpreting the rock record. We also teach advanced field geology at the Honours, MSc and PhD levels.

The full cohort of Earth Sciences students at UQ benefit from a solid training in reading and deciphering the rock record in the field. The program is delivered by faculty members in our school – the Rock Readers – who have implemented, improved and expanded a high-quality field-experience program at UQ.

Our students consider the integrative nature of field geology as the most important step in their education, and UQ-trained geologists have made significant impact and discoveries directly related to their distinctive field training.

The program attracts a large number of international students, students from other Australian universities, and industry participants.
